BAUDLESHIP

BAUDLESHIP is based on the old two-
player game of BATTLESHIP. Using
either Commodore's 1600 VIC modem or
the 1650 AutoModem, you can play
BAUDLESHIP with another person who
lives across town or across country.
Once you've established contact via
modems, simply RUN BAUDLESHIP. The
program begins in "chat" mode. In
this mode, anything you type will be
sent to your opponent. This is when
you can send nasty messages warning
your opponent that he is about to be
annihilated by the awesome expertise
of your naval forces.
When you have finished trading war
slogans, press the F1 key to begin
play. If you're first to press it,
then a message will automatically be
sent to your opponent informing him
that he should now press F1. After
both players have pressed F1, then
you should both input your names when
the computer asks.
After inputting names, the computer
will pause to decide who will play
first. Next a ten-by-ten grid will
appear. It is now time to hide your
ships. Each player has a submarine
(two squares long), a destroyer (three
squares long), a cruiser (four squares
long), and a battleship (five squares
long). You place any of your ships by
giving a starting coordinate in
column-row fashion. Next, you will
have to decide on one of eight
directions in which to extend your
ship. Any entry that places part of a
ship off the board or on top of
another ship will not be allowed.
When both players have finished
placing their ships, two grids will
appear on each player's screen. The
left grid will display your own ships.
The right grid (initially blank) will
keep track of your shots at the enemy.
The player who is to go first will see
a flashing "YOUR TURN (F1)". He may
press F1 and then enter his shot or
he may type a message that will appear
on his opponent's screen just like in
the prior "chat" mode.
If you hit one of your opponent's
ships, you will hear an explosion and
you will see a reverse-video character
appear on your target grid. If one of
your ships is being bombed, then you
will hear the whistling of the shell
as it approaches followed by an
explosion.
When one player wins, you are
returned to the "chat" mode and have
the option of playing again.
Have fun and happy sailing!!!
